Releasing Your Voice

The power of the voice has been understood for years by many societies, from Tibet to Mongolia and more recently some American medical professionals, to have far reaching benefits in healing and transformation. Everything is frequency and with intention, time and practice we can learn to entrain our own frequencies (body, mind and energy) to shift through self generating sounds.

 

But you don't have to be a rock star or a Tibetan Monk to think about your voice as a powerful tool.  Do you struggle with being heard or just getting in the flow of speech sometimes? Do you have an important presentation coming up? Do you feel lacking in energy?

 

If you answer yes to any of those then this may be a little exercise to help you...

 

 

 

Sound starts as breath and add to that intention and you have words and sounds. Many of us can feel blocked sometimes when speaking for a myriad of reasons. This excercise helps to unblock the voice, takes a few minutes and can be done pretty easily on the go. 

 

 

1. Stand up straight, legs together and straight with your arms hanging loosely at your side. 

2. Move the top part of your body into a forward bend from your waist and breathe out from your mouth.

3. At a gentle pace that feels right for you move upwards to a standing position whilst breathing in from the nose and focus intention on the breath reaching the diaphragm and notice the awakening of the belly area as this happens. When you come upright move the arms above the head and join palms at the top.

4. Hold your breath for a few seconds or as long as feels comfortable.

5. Release and bend forward again as with step 2 but this time allow the breath to carry sound. Whatever sound issue good, whatever tone and volume. This is releasing your sound so anything is the right thing and it can't be done incorrectly!

6. Repeat this for 2-3 minutes and allow the possibility of any sound and volume occurring over the course of the next few minutes.

 

This is a powerful warm up exercise when you want to speak from the heart. The in breath also allows a focus on listening to the change of the body as the breath is received.

 

Listening is a key part of sound and conversation in my opinion (and I haven't always done that with grace)! But this exercise helps create balance and then the focus on the belly allows the words to come from a place of love and creativity.
